Spike the Mixed-up Monster

Submitted by Ms. Allana!
In Spike the Mixed-up Monster by Susan Hood Spike is no bigger than a lily pad. In fact, that’s where he spends most of the day: sitting on a lily pad, trying to look like a fierce, mean monster. But the other creatures who live around the pond think he is cute and adorable. El pato, el armadillo, and el campañol all agree he has a sweet smile! Spike feels like he is a horrible monster. A terrible monster! In other words, he is not good at being a monster. One day, el monstruo came by, and scared all the creatures away except for Spike! When Spike bared his teeth at el monstruo, the Gila Monster thought Spike was giving him a friendly smile, so he asked him for directions! This is a funny, entertaining, and expressive book for young school-aged children. It would also be suitable for a story time focusing on friendships and cooperation.
