Toads on Toast

Submitted by Ms. Brenda!
In Toads on Toast by Linda Bailey, Fox has grown bored. Each day is the same, and each day ends with the same old boring meal. Catch a big fat toad, boil it, and eat it. Fox needs some new recipes. After buying a cookbook, he notices that most of the recipes call for young, tender toads (Mmm…), and not the big, old toads he’s been catching. He makes up his mind to only catch toadlets. One night, once his bag is full of tender, yummy toadlets, he heads home to whip up a new dish. Mamma toad gets there just in time! When her offer to take the toadlets’ place is rejected, she comes up with a great idea. She will share her family recipe for "Toad in a Hole" with him. It’s much better than any recipe he could find in that cookbook. You will enjoy the whimsical illustrations by Colin Jack, as Mamma helps Fox cook, and steers clear of mentioning the "missing ingredient," all while trying to keep her kids from lounging on the butter, playing in the honey pot, and getting too close to the burners. Fox ends up loving Mamma’s recipe, and shares some with everyone! If you'd like to try some toadless "Toad in a Hole," you'll find "Mamma Toad's Secret Toad-in-a-Hole Recipe" in the back of the book. Enjoy! See this book listed in our catalog
