One Special Day

Submitted by Ms. Brenda!
One Special Day by Lola M. Schaefer is the story of a wild and carefree boy who is about to become a big brother. Spencer is a boy. He is all boy. Rough and tumble, and ready to go! The book’s front end pages show Spencer doing handstands, jumping over rocks, and wearing a super hero cape. In the story, we learn about his animal-like characteristics. As we read along, we can guess which animal he will resemble next. He is strong. Strong as a…(turn the page) BEAR! He is funny. Funny as a…(turn the page) MONKEY! The illustrator, Jessica Meserve, has done a delightful job carrying us from animal to animal through the antics of one small boy. One day, Spencer’s parents bring home a new baby. Now Spencer is strong, fast, tall, loud, funny, wild, and, with his new baby sister, he is gentle. The back end pages show two kids instead of just one. Spencer is teaching his little sister how to be carefree too! See this book listed in our catalog
